A semi trailer is a trailer with an axle placed behind the center of gravity of the vehicle and equipped with a coupling device that can transmit horizontal and vertical forces to the towing vehicle. It does not have driving force and needs to be connected to the towing vehicle through a traction pin to achieve driving through the driving force of the main vehicle. The load of a semi-trailer needs to be borne by both the semi-trailer and the main vehicle, and after detaching from the towing vehicle, it needs to be balanced with the help of support legs.

Common classification of semi trailers:

1. Fence type semi-trailer

A semi trailer with a railing structure as the loading part is the most common type in the market, with strong cargo adaptability, mainly suitable for medium to long distance transportation of medium to heavy and bulk goods.

The lower one in the above image is a gooseneck type, which has the advantages of lower cargo surface, lower vehicle center of gravity, more convenient turning, and stronger passability on height limited sections.

2. Gantry semi trailer

A semi trailer designed with a fence structure is mainly used for the transportation of agricultural and sideline products and other light foam goods.

3. Box type semi trailer

A semi trailer with a cargo loading position designed as a box, mainly suitable for the transportation of household appliances, light textile goods, construction materials such as coal and gravel, as well as pallet goods.

4. Container type semi-trailer

Container transport semi trailers can transport containers and non hazardous cargo tank structures. The body of the semi trailer is mostly a frame structure, mainly used for logistics systems supporting ships, ports, routes, highways, transfer stations, bridges, tunnels, and multimodal transportation.

5. Tank full trailer

A semi trailer with a closed tank structure is mainly used for transporting liquids, bulk materials, and bulk cement.

6. Self dumping semi trailer

A self dumping semi trailer is a semi trailer with a cargo compartment and a self dumping function, suitable for the transportation of bulk and scattered goods such as coal, ore, earthwork, and construction materials.

7. Low flatbed semi-trailer

It refers to the semi-trailer specially used for the transportation of large and non detachable heavy goods, such as heavy vehicles (such as tractors, buses, special vehicles, etc.), rail vehicles, mining machinery, forestry machinery, engineering machinery (such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, pavers, cranes, etc.) and other heavy goods. Its platform plane height is lower, wheel end diameter is smaller, center of gravity is low, stability and trafficability is strong.

8. Vehicle transportation semi trailer

It refers to semi trailers with a fence structure design, mainly used for transporting passenger cars such as sedans, vans, commercial vehicles, and jeeps, and mostly consisting of two layers of loading platforms.

9. Large transport semi trailer

A semi-trailer specifically designed for transporting goods that are too wide, too high, too long, or too heavy. These goods are generally bulky, heavy, and indivisible, so they cannot be completed by ordinary transportation vehicles.

There are many types of semi trailers, each with different characteristics and operating conditions. If car owners want to choose a suitable model, they must consider four questions before selecting a vehicle:

1. What type of goods are loaded? Select the matching vehicle model based on the type of goods.

2. What is the transportation tonnage? Select the appropriate vehicle model based on the usual cargo weight.

3. What kind of route do you usually take? Match the components according to the frequently used road conditions.

4. What is the budget? Select the vehicle model based on the budget.
