Difficulty starting is a common problem for diesel cars in winter, which troubles many diesel car owners. Why is diesel prone to low-temperature solidification? This is mainly because diesel contains paraffin, which precipitates when cold, causing diesel to thicken and solidify, reducing its fluidity, blocking diesel filtration, and preventing diesel from being supplied to the engine cylinders.
Different types of diesel have different pour points, which is also the basis for dividing diesel grades. Car owners can choose diesel grades based on the actual situation of the area where the vehicle is used.
At present, diesel commonly used in China is mainly divided into six grades: 5 # diesel, 0 # diesel, -10 # diesel, -20 # diesel, -35 # diesel, and -50 # diesel.
It is worth noting that the diesel grade is not entirely equal to the minimum operating temperature of diesel. For example, 0 # diesel does not mean that it can be used as long as the temperature is not lower than 0 degrees Celsius. Because the waxing temperature of diesel is generally about 6 ℃ -7 ℃ higher than the pour point temperature, in order to ensure that diesel does not thicken or solidify during use, the minimum temperature used should be higher than the diesel grade temperature.
According to this logic, 5 # diesel is suitable for use above 8 ℃, 0 # diesel is suitable for use between 8 ℃ and 4 ℃, -10 # diesel is suitable for use between 4 ℃ and -5 ℃, -20 # diesel is suitable for use between -5 ℃ and -14 ℃, and -35 # diesel is suitable for use between -14 ℃ and -29 ℃- 50 # diesel is suitable for use at temperatures ranging from -29 ℃ to -44 ℃ or lower.
In practical applications, some gas stations may not have complete diesel grades. What should be done if suitable diesel cannot be added? Especially for vehicles that frequently operate in the Northeast region, even if low-temperature diesel has been added, it is still difficult to start after the vehicle has been shut down for a night.
At this point, some experienced drivers said: you can add a little gasoline to the diesel, which can have an antifreeze effect. This method is indeed effective. The pour point of gasoline is -60 ℃. Adding 6% -7% gasoline to diesel can lower the pour point of diesel by 5 ℃ -8 ℃, which can indeed prevent diesel from waxing.
However, gasoline is ultimately not diesel, and occasional emergency operations are not unacceptable. However, if done for a long time, it can have some side effects on the vehicle, such as causing engine knock, increased noise, increased shaking, affecting engine power, causing vehicle fatigue, damaging fuel pumps and injectors, and damaging the vehicle engine, which often outweighs the benefits.
So, adding gasoline to diesel can have an antifreeze effect, but it is not recommended to do so. Car owners who often run in low-temperature areas can take the following measures to prevent diesel from waxing and solidifying:
1. Adding diesel anti freezing agent: Diesel anti freezing agent, also known as diesel low-temperature fluidity improver, is a commonly used additive in diesel production, which can safely and effectively reduce the condensation point of diesel and improve its low-temperature fluidity.
2. Installation of insulation and heating equipment: For example, equipped with an electric heating device for the fuel tank, which transfers heat to diesel through battery power supply. There are many types of fuel tank heating devices, which can not only heat the fuel tank separately, but also heat the oil circuit.
3. Choosing the appropriate grade of diesel: This is the most critical and safe and effective measure, without the need for additional equipment or causing damage to the vehicle.
Some car owners feel that the price of low-temperature grade diesel is expensive, leading to high operating costs. In order to save the use of low-grade diesel, they choose to modify the dual chamber fuel tank or install a secondary fuel tank. When starting, they use low-grade diesel. After the vehicle is started for a period of time, the high-grade diesel in the large fuel tank melts and is replaced. This approach is understandable, but Darong Axle still recommends that car owners make relevant reporting applications to avoid the vehicle from entering the category of illegal modification.
