As a relatively high-end vehicle suspension system, air suspension is mainly composed of airbags, air pumps, guidance mechanisms, pressure sensors, control modules, etc. It has light weight, excellent shock absorption, strong cargo protection ability, and can also achieve single or multiple axle lifting, saving comprehensive vehicle costs. When the vehicle is traveling at high speeds, air suspension can better control the vehicle body and make corresponding changes to different road conditions to achieve stable driving of the vehicle.
However, air suspension is not without its drawbacks, as its manufacturing process is complex, there are numerous components, and the cost is high. In addition, compared to traditional leaf spring structures, air suspension is also more prone to damage. For example, some car owners mentioned that "the air suspension of the vehicle becomes prone after parking for a night". What is the reason for this?
In fact, under normal conditions, if the air suspension does not work for a long time, it will gradually release some air. This is to avoid excessive pressure and protect system performance. Therefore, there is no problem with the air suspension height dropping appropriately when the vehicle is stopped. Of course, in this case, the height of the car body will not decrease too low. If there is a direct phenomenon of crouching, it is likely that there is an air leakage problem in the airbag or pipeline.
Of course, the owner can also start the vehicle for testing. If the air suspension can automatically restart and rise to the normal working position after starting the vehicle, it indicates that there is no problem with the air pump and distribution valve, and there is air leakage in the airbag or management.
During the use of the vehicle, car owners can also determine whether there is air leakage in the air suspension through some phenomena:
When the exhaust volume is less than the intake volume, that is, when the air leakage is not obvious, the body may not sink, but the sound of the pump constantly pumping air can be heard. The noise on which side is loud is generally the problem on which side;
When the exhaust volume is greater than the intake volume, the airbag will collapse and the amplitude of turbulence will also increase, especially when encountering speed bumps or bumpy roads, the steering wheel is prone to deviation;
If the vehicle has recently fallen into a pit and experiences a "thumping" noise afterwards, it may be due to damage to the springs or other components of the air suspension.
If the vehicle is equipped with a central control computer board, the system fault light will light up when there is a malfunction in the air suspension. At this time, it is recommended that the owner find a safe place to park for maintenance as soon as possible or drive directly to the nearest repair station.
Due to the lower resistance of air suspension compared to leaf spring suspension, car owners should pay attention to reducing their speed in the face of complex road conditions in a timely manner to avoid damage to airbags caused by sand and gravel splashing, and slow down on uneven roads to avoid severe turbulence and damage to the precision components inside the air suspension. At the same time, when traveling in adverse weather such as wind, frost, rain, and snow, as well as when passing through asphalt roads during high temperatures in summer, attention should be paid to maintaining the cleanliness of the airbag and piston surfaces.
Maintenance recommendations for air suspension system:
1. All air suspension accessories
At least once a month, visually inspect for damage and wear.
2. Airbag, piston
Regular inspection;
Check the surface of the airbag for damage
Check the tightness of the airbag connecting bolts;
The air pressure shall not be less than 0.6MPa.
3. Control gas path
Inspection before and after initial loading;
Check and maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the air filter. If present, replace it;
Check whether the airtightness of each valve body and pipeline connection is damaged;
Check the connections and fasteners of each valve body for damage and for locking.
4. Shock absorber
Check at least once a quarter;
Check the fastening of the upper and lower connections of the shock absorber;
Check the sealing of the shock absorber;
Check if the shock absorber is working properly.
5. Components and U-bolts of axle and guide plate spring
It is recommended to use a torque wrench for re tightening after the first installation of the new car, and then check it quarterly;
Check if the plate spring seat and clamp shaft pressure plate have any open welding.
6. Guide plate spring bracket and guide plate spring and connecting bolts
It is recommended to inspect the new car after its initial installation and then conduct quarterly inspections thereafter.
7. Axle lifting device
Suggest conducting quarterly inspections;
Check the wear of the rubber buffer blocks on the lifting bracket;
Check if the bolts connecting the upper and lower parts of the airbag are loose.
8. Limit wire rope
It is recommended to inspect every quarter.
9. Air storage tank inspection
Regularly check the working status of the drain valve at the bottom of the air storage tank. In case of frost and humid weather, it should be checked every half month and the water in the air storage tank should be drained.
10. Body height (FH value)
Suggest conducting quarterly inspections;
The FH value is set when the trailer leaves the factory, and users must regularly verify it according to the FH value specified by the trailer factory to maintain consistency with the trailer when it leaves the factory.
11. Height valve inspection
It is recommended to visually inspect the surroundings of the valve every week for any obstacles, ensuring that the valve control arm and vertical rod are not interfered with within the limit range of the dynamic travel of the axle.
